A:The class "D" course is 42 hours in total, consisting of 40 hours of training and a 2-hour final exam. A: You must be at least 18 years old and either a U.S. citizen, legal resident alien, or have authority to work in the U.S. granted by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. You must successfully complete 40 hours of professional training provided by a licensed security officer school. Apply for your license and pay the application fees at Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).

A: You can easily enroll online. Enrollment is open as long as the class has not started yet. Please ensure your availability before enrolling, as 100% attendance is mandatory.

Refund Policy:

A: Refunds are only available if DSTA is contacted by phone within 3 days before class start date. Once a class has started, no refunds are given. Students must reschedule for a different class date. *A $25.00 dollar cancellation fee will be applied. Please read our full "Refund Policy".

Q: Can I choose between online and in-person classes for the Class D security license training? What are the advantages of each option?

A: Yes, classes are available both online and in person. The advantage of taking online classes includes the flexibility to learn from the comfort of your home, eliminating travel time. In-person classes are recommended if you lack video and audio-capable devices for online learning and are local to the Ft. Myers, FL area. Online students have full interaction with the instructor, can ask questions anytime, and engage with peers through live chat.


Q: How is attendance tracked for the Class D security license training, and what are the class schedule details?

A: Attendance is tracked for 40 hours, and successful exam completion is mandatory. Class schedule dates and times vary and are listed on the purchase page. The course is proctored, requiring live presence on the platform with a video feed throughout the class. A valid excuse for absenteeism may be considered with proper documentation, such as a death certificate for a death in the immediate family, and must be approved by the instructor for rescheduling.

Domestic Security Training Academy issues the certificate of completion (form # FDACS 16103) to the student and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within 3 days of course completion, provided the student passes. Assistance is provided for applying at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for the Class D security license.


Other Common Questions...

What happens if I don't take the 4 hr. annual requalification for a Class G armed license?

It is mandatory in Florida for all Class G armed security guards to requalify at least once per year with the type of handgun they use on duty. Our 4-hour course meets all state mandates, including a standard written re-qualification test. Although your Class G is valid for 2 years, failure to do the 4-hour yearly re-qualification will result in a suspension of your armed guard privileges, and you MUST do another 28-hour class.


How long is the course for Class D unarmed training?

Class D classes are 40 hours plus 2 hours for testing. Although testing may require more than the allowance plan to be testing longer than 2 hours.
Mandatory classroom presence is required by statutory law under F.S 493.6100.

How long are the courses for Class G armed training?

The Class G armed class is 28 hours (Saturday & Sunday) which includes range time. See Class G course for more info.

What type of payment methods do you accept?

Domestic Security Training Academy accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, Security Agency Checks, Community Checks, Money Orders, and Cash, no personal checks at this time.


Can I get help with the FDACS initial license appointment?

Yes, the Academy instructors will be very happy to assist you with your appointment for your initial licensing. The cost to get your Class D license is $97.75 payable to FDACS, not the Academy. The cost to get your Class G license is $112.00, as long as you submit both applications at the same time or within the first 6 months of submitting the first application (usually Class D).

Do you have online and in-person classes?

Yes, Domestic Security Training Academy offers both online and in-person classes. You may enroll anytime for an online class, or join us in-person at our Fort Myers, FL. location. We are excited to bring our very own unmatched training to those students who are not able to attend our in-person classroom training!

How many questions are on the tests?

Class D corresponds to 18 topics mandated by FDACS and encompasses 170 questions.
With our Highly professional Instructors, the class will be a breeze.
Class G is only 50 questions also mandated by FDACS


What is FDACS?

FDACS stands for Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and is the Department that issues all your Security, Investigator, Recovery, and many more licenses under the Division of Licensing, it also has the power under Chapters 493, 790, 5N-1, and other statutes to enforce the law related to violations directly or indirectly related to unlawful acts performed by licensed individuals and agencies.


Are the classes taught in English only?

Currently, the testing and curriculum are prescribed in the English language only, although there is no indication on any of the Statutes that it can only be taught in English,  the class and curriculum including written and range commands testing will be held in English only.


Are there night classes available?

Not at this time.  We may provide night classes in the future if there is enough demand.
